About the Author
Andreas Mayer is a historian and sociologist of science, who has published extensively on the history of the human sciences, notably on the history of psychoanalysis and its related discourses and practices. Over the past years, he was a lecturer and research fellow at the University of Cambridge, and a visiting professor at the University of Chicago and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. Since 2007 he is a Research Scholar at the Max Planck Institute of the History of Science. His most publications are The Science of Walking (forthcoming in German, Fischer, Frankfurt), Situating the Unconscious from Charcot to Freud (Chicago, forthcoming 2011) and a collective volume onFreud’s Rome – Phobia and Phantasy.
