Author Q&A

Q: What does the phrase “Safe Harbor” mean to you? How did it become the title of this novel?

A:
Safe Harbor is a state of mind…it’s the place—in reality or metaphor—to which one goes in times of trouble or worry. It can be a friendship, marriage, church, garden, beach, poem, prayer, or song. For Dana, like me, it’s her childhood home—a salty old house on a granite hill overlooking the sea. No matter what happens, no matter how dangerous the currents or how high the winds, I know that this is my protected anchorage. The truth is, it’s a very ruby-slippers kind of place. Click your heels three times… Even when I’m far away, all I have to do is close my eyes and go within myself to find the peace of a Safe Harbor. It’s in all of us, all the time.

Q: Readers meet Quinn first in this book. You bring her back in True Blue. What is it about this young person that compelled you to continue her story?

A:
Quinn is wild, tender, tough, and vulnerable. She is my inner beach girl. I needed to bring her back in True Blue because I missed her so much.
