Author Q&A

Hi all!

I’m really thrilled that Covet is out this month —and I’m psyched to be on Project Paranormal to talk a little about this first book in my new “Fallen Angels” series!

Similar to the way it worked with Wrath from the Black Dagger Brotherhood, it all started with a vision of a male…well, in this case a man: he was on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, wearing a black leather jacket, speeding down a highway.

You know, that reallllllly got my attention. Aside from the fact that I’m partial to big guys in leather, I wondered where he was going. Why he didn’t have a helmet on. What the cause of his frown was.

The answers that came to me resulted in Covet. Jim Heron is your typical alpha male, anti-hero who finds himself knee-deep in a netherworld he doesn’t believe exists. His first assignment? Rescue a man from the seven deadly sins…by making sure he ends up with the love of his life. Seems straightforward right? Trouble is, putting Jim in that role is kind of like asking a fish to ride a bicycle: he’s so not cut out of the Cupid cloth. Although he is good with sharp things like arrows, and knives, and—

Did I mention Jim is a former black ops solider? Um…

Where was I? Oh… right! The way it works with Jim and his quest is that he has seven couples he has to bring together, and each of the books in the series features the journey of not only that hero and heroine, but Jim’s mission to save humanity from eternal destruction. Throughout the stories, there’s a lot of dark and creepy deeds going down—and if you’ve already read Covet, you know what I mean. Truly, for me as a writer, I love that eternal struggle between good and evil, and writing paranormals means I get to cover so much more than moral right and wrong. In fact, part of what turns me on about Jim and the couples he helps is how the two metaphysical sides battle each other; what supernatural weapons they use; what tactical choices they make; how it all shakes out.

As for the love stories… hot, comes to mind. Hot, steamy and sexy— with a lot of emotional soul searching and challenges to be faced! I really am in love with Vin, the hero of Covet —and to see him fall for the right woman was a treat. He so deserves all the good that eventually comes to him—and so does she.

I truly hope you enjoy Covet, and the next in the series, Crave (coming next Fall!) Wishing you all the best and very happy reading,

—J.R.
