READERS GUIDE

Welcome to a great adventure! First of all, let me thank and commend you for setting aside this time to help steady your Walk at Work, Your commitment over the next seven sessions is an investment in your future, because of a deep desire you have to achieve in Christ what you alone could never achieve for yourself. And that is focused time and attention to help define your passions, purpose and plan for attaining true success.

How many of us have spent countless years seeking to attain the things of this world? The cash, the cars, the career only to find ourselves running on “E” once we’ve obtained them all. What is it that leaves us dry? What is it that we still thirst and hunger for?

True success is not found in things, but rather in a deep and abiding relationship in Jesus Christ. If your walk with Him is not as close as you would like, all I can say is open up your arms and your heart, and get ready to receive His love and blessings upon your life and work. You see, God wants to use you right where you are. All He asks is that we authentically and obediently walk in the light with love.

My prayer is that after reading this book and taking this class you will find soul satisfaction in all aspects of your life, and experience that peace the Bible talks about, which surpasses all understanding. (Philippians 4:7)

May God anoint you with His spirit, give you revelation knowledge and forever come to your rescue – no matter what the situation. May God’s definition of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. permeate your mind, heart and spirit so you will walk with boldness from this day forward for The Lord.

Able Only Through Jesus,

Andria

“Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15 (Amplified)

Introduction

THE BOOK

The Walk at Work is a gentle and encouraging guide to readers who wonder, how can I be an effective Christian in my life’s work? The Walk at Work is — part manual for personal spiritual growth, part daily devotional, and part Bible study. The advice offered in it will apply specifically to challenges on the job, whether office politics, career advancement, or soul survival. Changing your mindset and conversation is essential in this class. This book is an especially supportive resource for Christians who have a desire to submit to God’s Word and move from just Sunday Christians to Monday through Sunday believers.

Using the acronym S.U.C.C.E.S.S. as a teaching tool, the reader can achieve true success by lining up his or her priorities with God’s. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are each guided toward everything we need to succeed. We will examine not only the relationships we have with others at work, but also the everyday challenges many of us have just surviving and thriving on the job — no matter what we do.

THE GOAL

During the next seven sessions, the goal of The Walk at Work is to get you to be intentional by daily articulating and living out biblical principles; shifting your external ideas about success to line up with the spiritual definition given to believers in God’s Word. Shifting your personal paradigm from how the world describes success, to match who you really are as a follower of Christ, will be the criteria for determining true success in The Walk at Work seminar.

THE TOOLS

Each session you will need to bring seven things:
1.Your Holy Bible
2.Your companion book (The Walk at Work)
3. Your journal
4.Your pen
5.Your highlighter
6.Your testimony
7.Your heartfelt desire to hear from The Lord

THE REWARD

Each of us wants to believe that the quality and nature of our work should be defined by more than the paycheck we get at the end of the week. After participating in this seven-session course, you will be equipped to go back into your work environment, wherever that is, with a new perspective on why God has placed you there, and what you must do daily in order to succeed. This class is designed to give you practical solutions, scriptural ammunition, and biblical principles on which to stand. The Walk at Work is more than a book; it is a way of life that is based on the Word of God. You will have greater joy, deeper peace and a clearer purpose as you seek to walk authentically for Christ at work.

HOW YOU WILL USE THE BOOK

This course will be your guide through a seven-step process of attaining spiritual growth and maturity in your walk with Christ as it relates to your work life.

Each chapter of the book, The Walk at Work: Seven Steps to Spiritual Success on the Job written by Andria Hall, provides you with seven month’s worth of daily weekday devotionals.

You are encouraged to take the entire month to become deeply familiar with the foundational truths, which undergird each step. Then by reading and meditating on the daily devotions, you should commit to the action point at the end of each page and just do it! Again, be intentional. This, and submission to God’s Word is what brings about change.

By keeping a written personal journal of how you are able to implement the principle behind each step, your walk should begin to line up more accurately with The Word. The value added is it’s positive effect in all aspects of your life.

In the intimacy and security of each session, you will share those things that God has placed on your heart in confirmation of His Word.

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17

Each S.U.C.C.E.S.S. step requires you to participate in seven areas of involvement:

·Practical Application

·Spiritual Truth

·First Steps

·Journal Exercises

·Action Points

·Personal Prayer Writing Exercises – (Write your own prayer to share with the class — or if you desire, write it for God’s eyes only, but do write a prayer for each step. You should have seven prayers at the end of this course).

2) Introduction: Read the two translations of Colossians 3:1-3 below. Meditate on them, asking the Holy Spirit to translate their meaning to your spirit.

“So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ–that’s where the action is. See things from His perspective.

Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life–even though invisible to spectators–is with Christ in God. He is your life.” The Message

“If then you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth. For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.” Amplified

Describe in detail how these scriptures should apply to your daily walk with Christ. Give an example of an extended time at work when your mind was ‘fixed’ on the things of the moment? In what way will you implement this exhortation from the Apostle Paul as you set about your coming workday?

Delightful. Insightful. Articulate. Passionate. Energetic. These words describe a woman who is most comfortable before audiences “sharing her gift.”

Andria Hall is an award-winning broadcast journalist with more than 20 years experience in television. She was Weekend Anchor with CNN/USA from 1999 to 2001. Previously she was Weekend Anchor with New York’s NBC affiliate and a national news correspondent with FOX. She was also a key member of the journalistic team behind Chronicle, the award-winning nightly newsmagazine produced by WCVB-TV, Boston.

“She is gracious and genuine to everyone she meets. She’s a rare breed in the fast-paced, high-stressed TV industry,” says colleague Jestacia Jones, Television Host, “Mind, Body, Spirit” on Trinity Broadcasting Network’s JCTV.

Andria was born in Henderson, North Carolina, and raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, where her family moved to "Preachers Row" when she was four. Growing up a preacher and teacher’s kid, Hall learned about motivation early on as a child of the Civil Rights Movement. Her mother is a retired New Jersey counselor and educator, while her father has served as pastor at the same church for more than 40 years. Though a career broadcaster, she inherited the traits of teaching, counseling and inspiring others with the Word of God — by her lifestyle and vocation; Marrying the Camera With the Cross.

Currently, Andria is the president of SpeakEasy M.E.D.I.A., Inc., a media and public presentation consulting firm specializing in media coaching and broadcast quality productions. She is also the host of a Faith and Values Media Sunday morning program called America at Worship, which reaches nearly 50 million homes each week on the Hallmark Channel.

Hall was recently recognized with an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Virginia University of Lynchburg. She has also been featured in Essence, Ebony, Jet and many newspapers across the country. In addition to numerous journalism awards, she recently conducted a “Walk at Work” seminar at the 2003 National Association of Black Journalists annual convention.

Today, Andria is a television host, author, and professional inspirational speaker who conducts workshops and seminars across the country. She is quickly becoming known as a “faith and work” expert, showing that the two need not be separated, but rather when faith is lived out in one’s everyday vocation, true success is achieved.
