In 1989, Jerry Ellis became the first person in modern history to walk the 900-mile route of the Cherokee Trail of Tears. He wrote about that journey in his book Walking the Trail. He is also the author of Marching Through Georgia and Bareback! A graduate of the University of Alabama, Ellis has had four plays produced and has written for The New York Times. He lives in Alabama.
