Check the forecast for the series that’s “an addictive force of nature that will suck you in .” (News and Sentinel)Weather Warden Joanne Baldwin and her new husband, the Djinn David, are running from a malevolent hurricane bent on destroying her. Joined by an army of fellow Wardens and Djinn onboard a hijacked luxury liner, Joanne has lured the storm into furious pursuit. But even their combined magic may not be enough to stop it-nor the power-mad ex-Weather Warden controlling it…
Rachel Caine is the New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling author of more than fifty novels, including the Stillhouse Lake series, the Weather Warden series, the Outcast Season series, the Revivalist series, and the Morganville Vampires series.
First, a public service announcement: the Wardens organization tells me that they would like to sincerely apologize for the overall state of the weather. Not that they’re going to do anything about it. Hey, they’ve got a lot on their plate.
And you can read all about that in the latest “Weather Warden” book, Cape Storm, which comes out August 4. When last we left Joanne Baldwin, her wedding hadn’t exactly been the successful event of the season—unless you count hurricane season. Now, the return of her old mentor and enemy Bad Bob Biringanine has brought with it a deadly threat … because Bad Bob has a weapon that can destroy the Djinn, and even more than that, remove them completely from the record of history. The threat’s serious enough that the Wardens are going all in to counter it —sending a real, organized force out to do battle.
They need to take the fight to Bad Bob, and away from vulnerable population centers … so it’s time for an ocean cruise on a commandeered ship, complete with a few reluctant passengers trapped on board. It’ll take all of the Wardens, as many of the Djinn as can be coaxed into cooperating, and a major miracle to survive this trip. At the same time, Joanne’s wedding gift from Bad Bob—a black tattoo that keeps changing and growing and taking her over, bit by bit—is rotting her soul from the inside out. When push comes to shove, it may be Joanne standing on the dark side, at war with the Wardens, Lewis, and even her new husband David. But even if she stays a white hat … winning could cost her everything.
One of the most challenging things about writing the Weather Warden series is that when you’re talking about a group of people who, by definition, control some of the most powerful forces in creation, your problems tend to start out huge, and grow. After seven books of raising the stakes, though, this is the closest Joanne has ever come to losing everything … her friends, her colleagues, her lover, her world, and even herself.
So please, join me on board the ship for an exciting cruise to Cape Storm. There will definitely NOT be dancing on the Lido deck, so ditch the tuxedo or gown for something more wind- and water-proofed. That storm’s coming fast, and it looks like it’s packing a punch.
