Welcome to the Forgotten Realms Endless Quest books, where you don’t just read a fantastic tale. You become the hero — and choose your own fate. You awaken in an underground cell, stripped of your armor and your sword. Your fellow prisoners inform you that you’re trapped in the Underdark, soon to be taken to the great drow city of Menzoberranzan and sold off as a slave. But word is that demons are stirring in the underworld’s depth. Perhaps you can use that to break free, fighter.

The original Endless Quest books were childhood favorites of mine, their branching narratives allowing me to experience the fun of playing Dungeons & Dragons even when I couldn’t get a party together. When I heard they were coming back, I wondered if they could recapture that magic. Well, Matt Forbeck’s Escape the Underdark made me feel like that kid again. His twisty, clever tale of high adventure in low places captures the thrills of a classic dungeon crawl, especially that omnipresent threat of danger that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. To use a D&D metaphor, Escape the Underdark is a critical hit.—Gabe Soria, author of the Midnight Arcade seriesDungeons & Dragons meets Choose Your Own Adventure in this resurrection of the Endless Quest series.—Kirkus Reviews
