Anna tiene casi 10 años y le encanta leer. Le gusta tanto que Monsen, el  bibliotecario, se ha convertido en uno de sus mejores amigos.

Un día, su amigo le cuenta a Anna qué sucede con los libros que nadie  quiere tomar prestados de la biblioteca. Estos libros desaparecen, se  destruyen. Pero, ¿qué ocurre con quienes viven dentro de esos libros, se  pregunta Anna, desaparecen también? La idea de que todo ese mundo mágico  y sus habitantes se pierdan para siempre se le hace insoportable.

Y es entonces cuando Anna emprende un extraordinario viaje con una misión que nadie ha logrado hasta entonces: salvar a los libros del olvido.
