Staff Picks: Naomi Cho’s Favorites

A binge-worthy Original Series on Hulu, Reese Witherspoon approved, and so good I once tried to “borrow” (steal is a strong word) a copy off a coworker’s desk. What more do you need to know?

In a memoir of sorts, comedian Ali Wong writes letters to her young daughters sharing all there is to know about life. She explains everything from how to select a good Asian restaurant to what it’s like being a working mom and being a woman in a male dominated field. Heartfelt and obviously funny, this book doubles as an ab work out because you will be laughing so hard.

Frank Li, who finds math easy and fun (#cantrelate), takes a stab at romance but realizes that it’s not as easy as he hopes and that family is at the forefront of his life in both the good ways and bad. A story about the push and pull of being a child of immigrants and the growing pains of high school.

After Dark is one of the author’s shorter novels and less intimidating if you have yet to enter the magical world of Murakami. Spanning a single night in the streets of Tokyo, you meet the different characters who inhibit the mysterious hours between midnight and dawn. The first book I’ve ever read by the author and I’ve been hooked ever since.
