Hello, my book-loving buddies, my name is Sonya Kuhn and I am the Safety Manager for Penguin Random House in Westminster, Maryland. My role (which I love) involves finding ways to help us work more safely and fix items that have the potential to lead to an accident. In my spare time, I enjoy, being a momma, a wife, meditating, and music. But as an escape, I love reading. The books I enjoy most have a strong main character with a drive to overcome whatever adversity life throws at them. Alice Walker’s telling of Celie and the other women in this book touches my heart and speaks to me in a way I cannot put into words. If you have never taken this journey, I cannot recommend it enough.

Redeeming Love
by Francine Rivers
This book is based on the book of Hosea in the Bible and is historical fiction. It raised me high and took me low. But the book is so well written it was worth the trip. Be warned it is not an easy read and may trigger some.

Memoirs of a Geisha
by Arthur Golden
This book made me feel as if I were in Japan and watching a life unfold from the sidelines. The beauty of the culture and its not-so-beautiful parts are all portrayed in a way that made me crave more. I hated for this book to end so much that I read it four times.

There are tons of myths and legends surrounding Malcolm X, so much so that I had to read this book to find out what he wanted us to know. I had to hear who he was in his own words. This book tells you exactly what he wanted us to know about him and how he got to be that man. This book allowed him to speak his truths.
