The National Geographic Photo Ark is photographer Joel Sartore’s lifelong mission—a more than 20-year project to photograph every species living in the world’s zoos, aquariums, and wildlife sanctuaries.
“No one can look at these sensitive portraits of the incredible animal beings and not be amazed and inspired to do all in our power to preserve them—all of them, all the complex tapestry of life—for our children and theirs.”—Jane Goodall
From the vibrant colors of tiny poison dart frogs to the alert gaze of an adult male Asiatic lion, animal lovers and casual readers alike will marvel at the incredible photographs in this spectacular coffee table book, representing just a fraction of the 18,000 species Sartore has documented to date.
With a foreword by Harrison Ford and prose by revered National Geographic wildlife writer Douglas Chadwick, this thought-provoking volume showcases the astounding diversity and beauty of the natural world, revealing to us what’s at stake and inspiring us into action. As Sartore proclaims, When we save these species, we’re actually saving ourselves.
