High Stakes Missions

To atone for stopping time under the influence, Makoto’s sister Akane must undertake a challenging job for the Society. Her mission: retrieve a sacred artifact from a long-sealed chamber in the Tibetan mountains or risk forever staining her reputation. Back in Aomori, Makoto fits a friend in a handmade robe—only to unexpectedly unleash a little chaos. And when a special visitor asks for help, Makoto and her crew put all their skills to the test in a task that, if done wrong, could spell the end of the human race.

A Wonderful Summer

Summer finally comes to a close for Makoto and her friends—but not without incident! In Aomori, Beachy makes a surprise visit and helps Chinatsu with a summer project that’s out of this world. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, Akane gets sauced and puts Makoto’s plans to return to Aomori on hold. And when Makoto gets back, she’ll find plenty of surprises waiting for her. However, the biggest surprise comes when her friends find Makoto in a compromising situation that might just expose her status as a witch.

Summer Showers and Sourpusses

As summer continues, Makoto takes a trip to back home to Kanagawa. However, her time there won’t be all fun and games. She and her friends have to solve the mystery of a temple that appears to be cursed with never-ending rain. Before long, they find the culprits, but a communication issue may just leave Makoto and her companions all wet!

Makoto and her family journey to the peaceful region of Shimokita, where a mysterious figure called “Enigumo” can supposedly help Makoto find out which element she can control. The cousins chow down on sea urchin and have fun at the beach, completely unaware that her element might defy all expectations…

A surreal comedy in the vein of Yotsuba&! and Nichijou with a magical theme combines humor, slice of life and traditional Japanese culture in this debut work from Chihiro Ishizuka.

Makoto and her cousins head out to the yomiya, a night festival. There they run into the Harbinger of Summer who tends to oversleep. To apologize for causing it to snow on their house, the Harbinger offers them a treasured delicacy from the other side. Makoto has been raising mandrakes in the garden, but something has gone awry! Akira takes Makoto to a hot springs where a reporter tries to get a scoop about witchcraft. Akane goes to great lengths to cure Inukai, but she might not be ready to change back…!

Makoto uses the payment from the job to buy a magical item that reveals the invisible. Chinatsu’s gift from Beachy starts to wreak havoc, until it’s reduced to a form that lets her use a spell…

Serene Sorcery
Makoto makes her way to a fabric shop in town in order to sew a new robe, and ends up crafting a surprise for Chinatsu, too. Makoto combines her mundane studies with a bit of witchcraft and makes a freaky treat. On the way home from a late-night meeting with her mentor, Makoto runs into Inukai. They head to the beach and meet an adorably mysterious creature that immediately makes itself at home…

A Slice of Magic

Makoto and her cousins visit a café run by a witch that’s cloaked in magic and has regular visitors from folks on the “other side.” Inukai stops by to make amends, and Nao gets a taste of some spicy medicine. Akane drops by just in time for a very special sighting of a rare, sky-borne animal…

Natural Enchantment 

Makoto goes to a local cherry blossom festival and happens to encounter someone who has a bone to pick with her sister, Akane. When Akane happens to drop by, she teaches Makoto some new tricks for flying and some easy spellcraft. Their kid cousin Chinatsu is so charmed by the witches’ talents that she makes an unexpected request…

Makoto Kowata, a novice witch, packs up her belongings (including her black cat familiar) and moves in with her distant cousins in rural Aomori Prefecture, in the far north reaches of Japan, to complete her training and become a full-fledged witch.
