Spotlight on Semicolon Bookstore
We took a closer look at this beloved Chicago independent shop
There’s nothing like an independent bookstore. Created with love and staffed by bookish people, they’re often the center of a community. So, let’s get to know some of these indies a little better! We spoke to DL Mullens, proprietor of Semicolon Bookstore in Chicago, to get a sense of her shop and the books she’s loving right now!
Semicolon Bookstore is committed to nurturing the connection between literature, art, and the pursuit of knowledge; while also using the power of words to better their community.
Why did you want to work in books?
DL Mullens: I work in books because my love for words is the only thing that hasn’t wavered since childhood. I hope that love rubs off on customers regularly!
Here are the books DL Mullens recommends right now:
“A thrilling read with a ton of depth.”
“She’s funny, incredibly witty, and we fangirl her all of the time! Lol.”
“Such a great read that forces us to face ourselves and our intentions.”
What’s your career highlight as a bookstore owner/proprietor?
DM: Watching people line up down the block to get into my store in late June. The feeling was unexplainable in the best way possible!
