Penelope Murray
About the Author
Penelope Murray studied Classics at Newnham College, Cambridge, before becoming a founding member of the Department of Classics at the University of Warwick. Dr. Murray’s academic specialties include early Greek poetry and poetics; philosophical responses to Athenian song-culture, especially the views of Plato; and ancient literary criticism. She has written extensively on these subjects. Her books include The Muses for the Gods and Heroes of the Ancient World series; A Companion to Ancient Aesthetics, coedited with Pierre Destree; and Music and the Muses: The Culture of Mousike in the Classical Athenian City, coedited with Peter Wilson. Dr. Murray has taken an early retirement to have more time to write.
