Author Essay

Dear Friends,

I have to admit I’m a sucker for a good mystery. If there’s not a gorgeous, slightly grumpy knight on a white horse involved, there’s nothing I like more than a handsome, regularly-flirts-with-danger kind of super sleuth who surely kept a magnifying glass and deerstalker on his boyhood beside table.

Enter Derrick Cameron from Roses in Moonlight. He didn’t start out as an investigator of very expensive treasures that have gone missing, but now that he’s in the business of it, he finds that his particular skills of acting and disguise come in handy more often than not. His current case has him tracking down a priceless piece of Elizabethan lace. The problem is, the woman he believes is carrying that lace to its final dastardly buyer looks more like a sheltered librarian on a tourist trip than a hardened criminal on a quick run to London. It’s baffling, but he’s perfectly happy to keep a close eye on her and catch her red-handed.

The thing is, the only reason that Samantha Drummond would ever have red hands is because she’d been dabbling in paint, not because she’d been swiping lace. She has her degrees in the curation of historical textiles, true, but now that she’s in England, what she really wants to do is pull out her sketchbook and capture a few idyllic scenes of pastoral British charm. The very last thing she expects is to be labeled a thief . . . well, let’s be honest. The very last thing she expects is to find herself running through Elizabethan England while being labeled a thief, but sometimes that’s just what happens when you’re dealing with men who aren’t surprised by travel to strange and sometimes vintage locales!

I hope you’ll come along for the adventure. Deerstalker is, of course, optional!
