Discussion Quetions:

1.   When we first meet Delilah, she’s experiencing feelings of utter helplessness and panic in the aftermath of the lingering oblivion glamour—a sense that she can’t trust her own memory. Have you ever felt similar frustration or fear when it came to your mind or body? Can you identify with Delilah’s reaction to her predicament?

2.   Another pervasive theme in Delilah’s story is rage—fueled by her circumstances, her reliance on Ivy, and especially by Nina and her presence at Tomes & Omens. Did you find Delilah’s anger and refusal to forgive Nina relatable? Did your perspective toward her behavior change throughout the story?

3.   How did you feel about Delilah’s decision to cast the baneful blood spell? Was it reckless, or reasonable under the circumstances?

4.   What did you think of Delilah’s headstrong insistence on handling the aftermath of the blood spell on her own, instead of going to Uncle James and Emmy immediately?

5.   What did you think of Ivy and Delilah’s friendship? Do you think Delilah’s abrasiveness and self-reliance are forms of selfishness, as Ivy believes, or a defense mechanism? Or a bit of both?

6.   In many ways, Cat straddles two worlds and feels pulled in opposing directions. How did you respond to her moral ambiguity? Did you understand why Delilah might have found her so attractive?

7.   Which of the cryptids did you find the most terrifying? The most compelling?

8.   If you were to bond a familiar, what animal would it be? What would you name them?

9.   What did you think about inner Tomes? If you were to travel into your own mind as Delilah and Cat are able to do, what do you think Inner
You would look like?

10. Which spell cast in the story would you most like to see?
