Hi lovely people, I’m Jen! I recently started working in the financial side of Penguin Random House here in Maryland. Previously I worked in public libraries and studied art in college. I read a little bit of everything, such as paranormal, fantasy, steampunk, manga, and graphic novels. The Haunting of Hill House
by Shirley Jackson
Who doesn’t love a good ghost story? Real nail biters are sometimes hard to find, but this book is a real spine tingler. Lights will be on all night, no judgement here. I just finished watching the Netflix adaption of this haunted house story. Although wildly different in many aspects, I couldn’t possibly recommend either enough. For fans of Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black.

Narrated by Death, this story is woven through 1939’s Munich, Germany. Liesel is a young foster girl that discovers a love of books, especially stolen ones. A story that takes place during the bomb raids, as Death describes the horrors and mysteries of humans, is one you won’t soon forget. This book is both beautifully written and terribly heartbreaking.
