Bedtime Reading Recs from Our Partners in Sleep

If you follow us, you already know that it is National Sleep Awareness Month, and we at PRH are committed to preaching the gospel of reading at bedtime. And over the past few months, we have partnered with a few amazing sleep brands to set you up with the complete #readtosleep experience.

It turns out that the founders of these incredible brands are not only true sleep experts, but they love to read as much as we do! So we asked them to fill us in on what they’re reading before bed.

P.S. Speaking of our partners, we are all hosting a massive sleep sweeps right now! We are giving away an incredible Tuft & Needle mattress and sheet set, luxurious Eberjey PJs, soothing candles from Ellis Brooklyn, plus 25 books of your choice. Head over here to enter.

“Since I was a little girl reading books under the covers with a flashlight way past my bedtime, I’ve loved the escape that books can provide. I didn’t grow up with much in the way of toys or material things, but I had my imagination and with books it could run wild and free. I found I can  soothe needs or anxieties or creative hungers that maybe I didn’t even know I had.

That’s why I especially love rule-breakers and new thinkers and cultural rebels. It can be any genre really—from sci-fi to memoirs—but I adore stories where I can steep myself in their world like a cup of gorgeous tea. Reading their work not only transports me but it makes my world bigger. I get to experience lives and thoughts that maybe I had never even imagined.

I’m also a complete loyalist because once I find a gem I’ll follow them all the way through —I have already read all these authors or know of their work and thinking and I’m coming back for more.”

“I have a daily ritual of reading one page from a mentally stimulating book in the morning before I plan my day and one page from something fiction-based at night. I often read more—but the idea is that I can’t argue myself out of one page. Now I’m at the point where, if I skipped, it would be like not brushing my teeth in the morning—it just feels off.

I’ve read Atomic Habits three times in the last four months. It’s changed the way I view goals and systems thinking. Stillness Is the Key and Forest Bathing are both perfect for an overstimulated society. People need to find inner peace with all of the chaos.”
