About the Author

Mary Ito has been a broadcast journalist for over 30 years in radio and television.  She currently works at CBC Radio as an occasional host and producer for a variety of local shows including Ontario Morning and Here and Now. Previously, Mary was the host of Fresh Air, the weekend morning show on CBC Radio, for seven years.  She also worked at CBC Television, hosting the daytime lifestyle show Living in Toronto. Before CBC, Mary was with TVOntario as host of the daytime talk show More to Life, and Second Opinion, a weekly show that covered controversial issues in health.  Mary also worked at Global as a health reporter, and CFTO as a columnist, reporter and occasional anchor.  Mary started her career at CFRB Radio as a reporter and host of several shows. Mary is also the founder of CRAM, a free research learning festival for the public that involved all four of Toronto’s universities.  Thirty-five presentations showcasing new research from a multitude of disciplines took place across four campuses in April 2019. Mary is on the board of Roots of Empathy, a national charity that operates in twelve countries.  She’s also volunteered with other organizations such as the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health,  the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ontario and the Toronto Public Library.
