Kim Purcell
Kim Purcell is an award-winning author, writing teacher, and developmental author whose work helps writers of all ages find their voice, build confidence, and finish the stories they’ve always wanted to tell. She is the author of Write a Novel in 100 Days: The Busy Writer’s Guide to Finishing Your Book Fast, forthcoming from Penguin Random House, as well as the young adult novels Trafficked and This Is Not a Love Letter.
Her critically acclaimed YA novels have been recognized by NPR, Kirkus Reviews, Mighty Girl Books, and Bank Street College. This Is Not a Love Letter was named one of NPR’s Best Books of 2018, and her work has appeared on respected reading lists for young readers and teens.
Kim has more than 25 years of teaching experience and has taught ELA, creative writing, and ESL. She has worked with kids, teens, and adults in classrooms, writing programs, online workshops, and community organizations. Her students have finished novels, published books, won awards, earned scholarships, and used their writing accomplishments in college applications.
Kim holds an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a BA in International Relations and English from the University of British Columbia. She has taught in Korea, Los Angeles, and New York City, including programs with WriteGirl LA and the Los Angeles and Culver City school districts.
