Author Essay

Dear Reader,

They say you can’t run away from your karma but the heroine of Dragon Bound gives it her very best try. Pia Giovanni makes only one mistake—well, okay she makes two. Her ex-boyfriend is not the most shining example of her best judgment, nor is the fact that she might have shared one itty-bitty secret with him when they had been together.

We all have things that keep us humble, right? If only exes stayed in the past where they belonged… Unfortunately for Pia, hers doesn’t. Pia’s ex-boyfriend uses her itty-bitty secret to blackmail her into stealing from Dragos Cuelebre, Lord of the Wyr. The Great Beast.

As for Dragos, he’s a guy who’s used to things going his way pretty much all of the time. He is the center of his own universe. His wish is everybody else’s command. And no one steals from the Great Beast and gets away with it. No one.

So the chase is on.

He sets a trap for Pia but then he finds himself ensnared. Pia skips out of his demesne, and he violates border treaties to hunt her down. He’s enraged, baffled, amused, intrigued, and at times he is all of those things at once. He never understood how bored he was until Pia came along to shake loose the assumptions he had of himself and his world. And he never realized how truly invulnerable he was until he grew to care about someone else, and suddenly that invulnerability of his gets stripped away.

As for Pia, Dragos might not be a very good man but she comes to think he’s actually a pretty good dragon. And it’s a lot harder to try to run away from someone when you are crazy attracted to him.

Then they get kidnapped, and they have to learn to rely on each other to survive. Pia stops trying to run away from Dragos and Dragos starts protecting her. She even teaches him how to say please sometimes. Given his age and autocratic nature, that’s more of an accomplishment than you might normally think.

Dragon Bound is the first in my new Elder Races series, and I had a wonderful time writing it. I loved Dragos and Pia’s story and I’m excited at the chance to share it with you. I hope you have great fun visiting with them. I love to hear from readers, so drop me a line or two at and let me know what you think. Or if you’re interested in regular updates and the occasional outright silliness, you can also find me on Twitter and Facebook.

Thanks so much for your interest, and happy reading!

All the best,
