Margery and Clementine Butcher-Baker are looking forward to a quiet school year but their plans for peace are foiled. A new teacher, Mr Jackson, is found dead in the school kitchen. He’s been electrocuted by a faulty piece of kitchenware which Margery knows for certain was working the day before.

With the kitchen’s risk assessments missing and CCTV blocked by a strategically placed tea towel, suspicion falls squarely on Margery. Under pressure from outraged parents and governors, headteacher Rose Smith has no choice but to suspend her.

Margery knows she isn’t a murderer and Clementine is desperate to clear her name. But when all the evidence points towards Margery, proving her innocence is far more difficult than they ever imagined.
