Booklist October 1 2026
Eight makes a family—at least for French doll Lulu. Compotine follows her first Lulu book, Lulu’s
Crochet Dolls (2024), with this guide for making three generations of Lulu’s family, from
grandparents Jean and Lucie to four-year-old sister Susan, with a birthday party as the
centerpiece. Despite the small font size, Compotine’s directions couldn’t be clearer, with step-bystep, captioned photographs adding even more depth to the instructions. While some yarns
used, from DMC and Hobbii, might be difficult to source in the U.S., Compotine encourages
crocheters to make “a family just like yours,” showcasing specific yarn colorways, light and dark,
to help crafters do just that. Those with intermediate crocheting skills will be sated by all the
projects here to accessorize the family, from a tiny skateboard and basket of boules to bunting
and a teddy-bear handbag. There are lots of amigurumi books out there, but not so many in
Lulu’s French style.
