“It took me a long time to pick up Mother Hunger. I worried it might illuminate pain I wasn’t yet ready to name. What I found instead was resonance, relief, and a depth of knowledge that validated so much of my lived experience. Kelly McDaniel restores dignity to women’s longing, offering clarity, tenderness, and a profound sense of permission to begin again. With rare compassion and clinical rigor, she maps the enduring impact of maternal misattunement without reducing it to blame or pathology. This book is astonishingly well-resourced—a true treasure trove of insight—and it reads with the warmth of the person who wrote it. Only someone as thoughtful and compassionate as Kelly could turn over every stone so carefully, so that we might know and understand ourselves more fully.”
— Ingrid Clayton, PhD, author of Fawning: Why the Need to Please Makes Us Lose Ourselves—and How to Find Our Way Back
“I read Mother Hunger as if it was a sacred text—each word revealing and illuminating the deepest inner essence of me I knew was there but couldn’t name. Kelly McDaniel has translated the most palpable, potent, and impactful imprint of mother to daughter that has the power to heal us in real time while also providing healing to those who’ve come before us and arrive after. I honestly cannot remember a time I have resonated with anything as much as I do Mother Hunger. If you’re drawn to this book—trust it!”
