A 300-year-old manuscript, resourceful female pirates in their own words, and a modern-day ghost writer on the brink of burnout: from these threads comes an epic story of reckoning and defiance for a group a women linked across hundreds of years.
South Coast, Jamaica. Modern day. Kath Selkirk is the voice behind one of the most successful memoirists of the last decade. On a research trip to Jamaica for her next project, Kath discovers what appears to be a first-person account of the notorious pirates Bonny and Read, whose legendary adventures have never been documented in detail. Feeling alienated from her life, wondering at its twists and turns, Kath flees to a remote Caribbean island, manuscript in hand. Consumed by the pages, persuaded of their priceless authenticity, and inadvertently raising the curiosity of unscrupulous treasure hunters who well understand the value of this astonishing discovery, she’s left with burning questions: How did this mysterious book come to be written? How had it been lost? And, as Kath reveals the truth plundered from her own past, how has this story found her once again?
Nassau, Bahamas. Approx. 1725. Anne Bonny and Mary Read board Captain Jack Rackham’s ship, The Swift, commencing the tale of the defiant, resilient pair who navigated a perilous world. That is, until their story abruptly halts when they are captured and imprisoned in Jamaica.
Based on the remarkable true story of marauders Bonny and Read, Plunder is a novel told across time in a place of wild and eerie beauty, as these women come face-to-face with the demons of their pasts.
