How do hurricanes form? How do we stay safe when one is near? MIT Kids continues its exciting “how things work” leveled reader series tailor-made for the next generation of innovators, scientists, and thinkers.
Did you know that hurricanes are so big they’re visible from space? Or that warm, moist air over the ocean helps them grow? Hurricanes can cause floods, storm surges, and high winds that are dangerous and destructive. But scientists have developed satellites to track their path and categories to identify how strong they are. In some cases, alerts tell us to evacuate until the storm has passed. Part of a leveled reader series written by experts and developed with educators on a range of STEM subjects, Discover Now: Hurricanes begins with a note to caregivers, is packed with vibrant photos, and winds up with a picture glossary and index. This book is a Level 2 reader, perfect for storm-curious kids who are comfortable with longer sentences and more challenging vocabulary.
