Eric Dane was an acclaimed actor and ALS advocate best known for his breakout role as Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on ABC’s Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated series Grey’s Anatomy and for his riveting portrayal of Cal Jacobs in HBO’s Euphoria, which earned him a 2022 Hollywood Critics Association TV Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He began his acting career in the early 1990s, with roles in “Saved by the Bell,” “The Wonder Years,” “Roseanne,” “Married… with Children;” and gained prominence with recurring roles in “Charmed,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Last Ship.” Additionally, Dane has appeared in films, including “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Marley & Me,” “Valentine’s Day,” “Burlesque,” and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” Beyond his celebrated career, Dane became a powerful voice for ALS awareness and research following his own diagnosis, using his platform to lobby members of Congress, raise critical funding for scientific advancement, and speak candidly about living with the disease.
