SEAN CADIGAN has been a professor of history at Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador, since 2001 and now serves as department head. He is the author of Newfoundland and Labrador: A History. Past awards include the Canadian Nautical Research Society Keith Matthews Award for the best article in Canadian maritime history.
