David Diaz

David Diaz is best known for his illustrations in the dramatic book Smoky Night, by Eve Bunting, for which he won the 1995 Caldecott Medal. His other books include The Inner City Mother Goose; Wilma Unlimited: How Wilma Rudolph Became the World’s Fastest Woman; Going Home; and The Pot That Juan Built. In addition to the Caldecott, he has garnered awards from Parents’ Choice, American Illustration, Communication Arts, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and the New York Art Directors Club. He lives in Carlsbad, California.
