Nellie Bly (1864–1922) was a reporter, activist, and businesswoman who is celebrated as one of America’s most famous and influential journalists. She is best known for the undercover assignment that resulted in the book Ten Days in a Mad-House and her race to circle the globe faster than the hero of Jules Verne’s popular novel Around the World in Eighty Days.
