Mary Gentle was born in 1956 and is one of the most highly praised writers of fantasy and science fiction. Gentle’s bestselling book Ash is the largest single fantasy work ever. Gentle has an MA in war studies, and has experience with sword-fighting and armor. She lives in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England.
