Hace cinco años Eli Glinn trató de recuperar un meteorito gigantesco de  una isla remota en el cabo de Hornos, en la punta de Sudamérica. La  misión acabó en desastre, pues su embarcación se hundió en una tormenta  salvaje en aguas antárticas y arrastró el cargamento a las profundidades  del océano. El meteorito, sin embargo, no era una simple piedra. Ese organismo  complejo llegado del espacio ha echado raíces en el fondo marino  y está  creciendo. O se destruye o el planeta está condenado. La única esperanza  es que Glinn y su equipo lo aniquilen, tarea para la que requieren la  experiencia de Gideon en armas nucleares. Five years ago, the mysterious and inscrutable head of Effective Engineering Solutions, Eli Glinn, led a mission to recover a gigantic meteorite—the largest ever discovered—from a remote island off the coast of South America. The mission ended in disaster when their ship, the Rolvaag, foundered in a vicious storm in the Antarctic waters and broke apart, sinking-along with its unique cargo-to the ocean floor. But this was not all. The tragedy revealed something truly terrifying: the meteorite they tried to retrieve was not, in fact, simply a rock. Instead, it was a complex organism from the deep reaches of space.
