En esta especie de fábula, el autor reflexiona sobre la mecánica de los deseos, sobre los caprichos y la burla del destino. También se nos habla de la necesidad de crear en un Estado totalitario, de aquellos artistas desalentados pero con el espíritu de la creación encendido.
En marzo de un año cualquiera, el mago argentino Hans Chans acude a una convención de ilusionistas en Panamá. La peculiaridad de Hans Chans es que es un mago de verdad, él puede hacer cambiar las leyes del mundo físico, puede jugar con la realidad a su antojo. Sin embargo, durante toda su vida Hans se ha esforzado en ocultar este don, y ha pasado por ser un mago mediocre, incapaz de aprovechar su condición en beneficio propio.
No obstante, en esta ocasión está dispuesto a demostrar quién es él realmente. Resuelto a desplegar su talento ante sus colegas, Hans Chans no es consciente de que esta vez su magia va a cambiar su destino y el de otros radicalmente.

Formentor Prize 2021
In this fable of sorts, the author reflects on the mechanics of desire and the whims and tricks of fate. We are also told of the need to create in a totalitarian state, of those artists who, although discouraged, keep their creative spirits aflame.
In March of any given year, the Argentine magician Hans Chans attends an illusionist convention in Panama. But Hans is a real magician, who can twist the laws of the physical world and play with reality at will. Throughout his life, he has worked hard to hide this gift, and has passed for being a mediocre illusionist, unable to use his gifts for his own benefit.
However, he is now willing to show who he really is. Determined to display his talents before his colleagues, Hans Chans is unaware that this time his magic will radically change his and others’ destiny.
