Discussion Questions:


1.   When Rose first sees the portrait of Henry in the museum, she’s transfixed. Has a painting, a photograph, or a particular shot in a movie ever stopped you in your tracks? If so, what was it?

2.   Rose often helps other people in the story. Have you ever known someone who’s always taking care of others? What are the benefits—and the drawbacks—of being that kind of person?

3.   Henry loves learning and can become obsessed with subjects that interest him. Have you ever known someone like that? What are the benefits—and the drawbacks—of a thirst for knowledge?

4.   The ancient astrolabe in the story can sometimes be used as a time travel device. If you could visit another era, past or future, what era would you choose, and why?
