In order to provide reading groups with the most informed and thought-provoking questions possible, it is sometimes necessary to reveal certain aspects of the storyline. If you have not finished reading Our Secrets Were Safe, you may want to do so before reviewing this guide.

1.   If Equilibrium were a real company, how do you think it would be doing in the current climate?

2.   Sofia loved Caroline, but her attachment to her veered into obsessive territory. Why do you think that was?

3.   If you had to assign 100 percent of the total blame for Sofia’s death, how would you distribute it among the other characters in the novel?

4.   Have you ever encountered a Rob Peterson type, someone similar to the man Caroline tries (and fails) to sell on Equilibrium? If so, what was your experience?

5.   Throughout the book, Caroline reflects on some of the contradictory aspects of modern expectations for working women. Which of these challenges, if any, have you encountered in your life?

6.   Do you think Daphne Winters ultimately protected Brooke, or did she cause further harm?

7.   Were Drea’s actions justifiable revenge—against the Archers for what they had done to her sister—or something else?

8.   In your opinion, do Caroline’s actions in the final chapters redeem her character?

9.   Was Brooke right to leave Brown the way she did?

10. What did you think of Eric’s plan to have Equilibrium scavenge clients in the midst of corporate scandals? Was it savvy strategy or bad ethics?
