Discussion Questions:

1. If you knew the only way to save your love was to leave them, would you do it?

2. Each god in this book claims a possession as their “divine relic” to channel their powers. If you had a relic, what would it be? And what magic would be tied to it?

3. The Wolf of the Wild is akin to a rock star in this world: intriguing, elusive, sexy, larger-than-life. It’s an identity Faolan purposefully created so as not to be forgotten, and one he wrestles with throughout this book—but does that mean it’s not true? What are your thoughts on the identities we craft for ourselves and how they intersect with the truth of who we are?

4. There is a dynamic at the heart of this duology found in the Trickster and the Martyr (aka Faolan and Saoirse). What are some ways their opposite views of the world and approaches were showcased in the story? Are there any other stories you can think of that play with this
pairing?

5. During the autumn equinox, Saoirse challenges her brother to a drinking game of “truth or lie.” If you could challenge someone in the book
to the same game, who would it be and what would you want to find out?

6. A lot of Saoirse and Faolan’s romance was defined by circumstance in Soulgazer: a necessary alliance, the marriage of convenience, forced proximity, his soul bargainer’s mark and her ability to feel its pain. How do you think their relationship changed once those factors were stripped away?

7. In Wolftamer, Faolan and his crew have to infiltrate a popular pub called the Merrow, which preserves the pirates’ history in murals on its walls. What would your pirate tavern be called, and what would the central image be?

8. Magic means different things to each person in this story. At times it is a curse, at other times a blessing. It is the tipping point of power, hanging in a precarious balance depending on how it is used and what is sacrificed to wield it. Did your thoughts on magic change
throughout the story based on characters’ choices? And do you agree with them?

9. Power is a running theme throughout Soulgazer and Wolftamer, from how it is claimed and used to who is allowed to use it, as well as the myriad ways it manifests and corrupts. What are some of the ways you saw it appear in this book? Did any of them surprise you?

10. If you could write a sea shanty about the story of the Magpie and the Wolf, how would it go? Pick a familiar tune, swap the lyrics, and do Faolan proud!
