The Westing Game meets James Patterson’s Treasure Hunters in this first book in an enthralling and heart-pounding adventure series for ages 8 to 12 that transforms readers into budding detectives, placing them in the center of real historical mysteries and treasure hunts.
Real treasure. Real history. Real danger. This is the summer the Sandbar Six is born.
Eleven-year-old Mia Mahone is expecting the most boring summer of her life. Sent to stay with her quirky Uncle Duff at the lighthouse on remote Morris Island, she is completely unplugged from her world of screens and friends. The island is quiet, the lighthouse museum is filled with dusty pirate relics, and even the dog seems more interested in slobbery tennis balls than adventure.
Everything changes when Mia’s homemade radio scanner picks up strange signals in the middle of the night. A drone is flying low over the marshlands, and someone is searching for something. When Mia meets Kai, a local boy with deep roots in Gullah culture, and teams up with boat kids Diego and Harper, they begin to uncover clues tied to a long-lost treasure hidden by a British naval captain nearly three hundred years ago.
Using computer coding, environmental science, nautical knowledge, and island lore, the team follows a trail of secrets through museums, marshes, archives, and a centuries-old coded map. As greedy developers close in on the island’s future, the newly formed Sandbar Six realize their only chance to protect Morris Island lies in exposing its untold past.
In this captivating new series combining real history, cutting-edge tech, and timeless friendship, the Sandbar Six may not have been looking for a mystery, but they have found one that will change everything . . . including themselves.
