Their trip to Oaxaca and Cuernavaca becomes an initiatory voyage from cantina to cantina, where desolation and death hover over the protagonist until an unexpected ending awaits him.
Considered the continuation of Under the Volcano, Dark as the Grave Where My Friend Is Laid is a posthumous work, edited into its current form by Margerie Bonner, the author’s widow, and his biographer Douglas Day.
