A breathtaking picture book that captures the thrill of the ocean and the feeling of moving without limits. When a young girl returns to the sea, she is free to move any way she wants and to feel at home in her body, culminating in a quietly powerful ending that reframes her story in an unforgettable way.
When summer vacation arrives, a young girl returns to the beach with her family. In the sea, she becomes an explorer, a zigzagging serpent—she becomes weightless. The water offers a rare sense of autonomy and freedom that she does not experience on land.
With a powerful surprise ending, this moving story invites reflection on disability, sensory perception, and our connection to nature. Lyrical text is brought to life through evocative pencil and watercolor illustrations that perfectly capture the expansive, buoyant feeling of being in the ocean.
