In a drafty, makeshift Paris workshop, a brilliant researcher hunches over a boiling cauldron of uranium ore. She is tracking a mysterious, invisible energy that pours from the substance before her – and her discoveries are about to upend the world.
At the dawn of the twentieth century, the world’s leading minds believe they already know everything about matter. They are certain that atoms are solid, permanent, and unchangeable building blocks. But Marie Curie is determined to prove that these ancient scientific laws are wrong. Along with her husband Pierre she plunges into a quest to prove her theory. They will go on to isolate two completely new elements and discover radioactivity. This thrilling story of resilience shows how one woman’s determination unlocked the secrets of the atom and transformed our understanding of the universe.
