Acclaimed Indian author and artist Abhishek Singh presents a new mytho-poetic universe, Hymns of Medhini, inspired by the elephants and wisdom of the earth. It invites readers of all ages to explore ecological wonders and celebrate the many aspects of earth’s wisdom through new lore and stories.
What if Elephants had their own mythology?
Amsu, the little elephant, Kesri, the tiger yogi and Nirmalam, the wise turtle, traverse Medhini—an old ancient Earth submerged in an eternal ocean. They explore its mysterious realms in search of the new Sun, which will begin creation again.
To little Amsu, the baby elephant, rain is music. She wants to know how to discern between the darkness that is nurturing and the one that is deceptive. Inspired by the ancient wise Mother elephant Adrija, she endeavors to know how one can become spring.
In a burning forest, Kesri, the tiger yogi, is startled to see a little flower remain unmoved in the face of uncertainty.
Nirmalam, the world turtle, knows all the invisible pathways of the sea. Together with Kesri, they’ll heal the forest.
Inspired by Singh’s experiences in the Himalayan ranges and the time he has spent with elephants, Hymns of Medhini: Mythic Tales of Nature and Elephants is a contemporary mytho-poetic universe woven from ancient wisdom, Indian mythology, earth science, and the spirit of nature, and adorned with timeless spiritual iconography.
