A Guide to Shakespeare Plays and Poems

by Daniel Sanchez Torres

William Shakespeare was a poet, playwright, and actor widely regarded as one of the most influential writers in the history of the English language. To this day, he continues to inspire countless authors, and his work continues to remain relevant today. Often referred to as the Bard of Avon, Shakespeare’s vast body of work includes comedic, tragic, and historical plays; poems; and 154 sonnets. His dramatic works have been translated into every major language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

William Shakespeare Complete Works Second Edition

    by William Shakespeare

The First Folio, assembled by Shakespeare’s actors in 1623, was the original Complete Works. Over time, editors like Nicholas Rowe altered the text, blending Folio and Quarto versions with errors. The second edition of the Complete Works, featuring annotations by Jonathan Bate and Eric Rasmussen, offers cutting-edge scholarship, stage directions, on-page glossaries, a timeline, family trees, and RSC production photos. This edition combines scholarly insight with a focus on performance, making it essential for students, theater professionals, and general readers.
