Staff Picks: Kayleigh Woltal’s Favorites

Funny Story shot to the top of my Emily Henry rankings the second I read it. The title does the story justice, this funny read had me laughing out loud when I read it! When Daphne’s fiancé breaks up with her over his childhood friend, Petra, Daphne goes to the one person who knows what she’s dealing with: Petra’s ex, Miles. With a bit of roommates-to-lovers and a bit of fake dating, Funny Story is filled with genius banter and a male main character who might have you kicking your feet and giggling. This is a romance I recommend to everyone!

You’ve probably seen this one a million times, but I promise it is worth the hype. This book combines the idea of a modern Greek tragedy with an unreliable narrator and brought such depth to the story and its characters. The Secret History follows a group of students who find themselves planning, committing, and hiding a murder, all while exploring their own sense of morality. None of these characters are particularly lovable, but you don’t necessarily hate any of them either, making you unsure of whether you want to root for them or not throughout the story. This book sucks you in with its captivating writing and unique characters and keeps you on your toes.
