Praise

“Did you know that there is an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency in America? Did you know that a lack of proper vitamin D has been scientifically connected to 17 varieties of cancer, along with many other life-threatening diseases? Did you know that vitamin D isn’t even a vitamin (it’s a hormone)? You will after reading this practical and information-packed guide to a powerful (yet inexpensive) ‘wonder vitamin’ that can markedly improve your health. I’ve experienced firsthand that Dr. Soram is riding the wave of the medical future—focused on prevention, and combining the best of traditional Western medicine with alternative approaches.”
— Arianna Huffington, nationally syndicated columnist

— Verdine White, co-founder of the Grammy Award–winning band Earth, Wind & Fire

“Dr. Khalsa has written an easy to understand summary of the current literature on vitamin D. He has nicely pointed out that we are experiencing an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency, in great part due to the use of sunscreen, protective clothing, and avoidance of sun exposure. Since vitamin D deficiency is associated with osteoporosis and other medical problems, and since it is so easily diagnosed and corrected, Dr. Khalsa is performing a public service by increasing the awareness of this problem. He has appropriately pointed out that studies that show an association between low vitamin D levels and disease states do not necessarily indicate that the disease is due to the vitamin D deficiency. Nevertheless, he provides a reasonable argument that correcting a low vitamin D level is a good thing to do, since there is very little downside, as long as one does not take massive doses of the vitamin. He advocates measurement of blood vitamin D levels to diagnose deficiency and to monitor therapy. I applaud Dr. Khalsa’s strong advocacy for this important health issue.”
— Glenn D. Braunstein, M.D., Chairman, Department of Medicine, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California

“This book simplifies vitamin D research on 20+ diseases, and provides practical guidelines for patients and physicians concerning finding optimal levels of vitamin D intake and serum targets for 25-hydroxyvitamin D. You’ll enjoy reading it if you’re interested in preventive medicine and your personal health.”
— Cedric F. Garland, Dr. P.H., F.A.C.E., adjunct professor of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of California, San Diego, Moores Cancer Center; widely published vitamin D researcher
