1.   The inn is a focal point in the novel. What specific need does it meet for each character? Do you think it feels like a character in its own right?

2.   Sera is likened to a phoenix. How does she grow and transform over the course of the story?

3.   Luke’s peers called him the Tin Man when he was younger, a Wizard of Oz reference that’s stuck with him ever since. Why do you think he
continues to identify with this character?

4.   Even though Sera and Luke don’t seem compatible at first, they fall for each other. Why do you think their personal differences become strengths in a relationship? What similarities do they have?

5.   Sera equated her value to her degree of magical ability, and Jasmine devalued herself because of her limb difference, which are both elements that are out of their control. What did their respective journeys teach them about their own inherent value?
