Teresa, la abuela, creció aislada en un orfanato en medio de la Sierra Gorda queretana, y desde pequeña ha visto con vergüenza su facilidad para servir como médium a las almas en pena.

A través de ellas recibe la ubicación de un tesoro escondido y una popularidad que atrae a los políticos del momento para que les hable de su suerte. De sus hijos, uno se ordena como sacerdote, mientras otro se une a su primo para armar la Revolución y terminar envuelto en la Primera Guerra Mundial.
