1.   Mavis asks, “Why is taking care of yourself so much labor?” Do you agree with this? Who gets to participate in the self-care industry?

2.   Throughout the book, Mavis talks about constantly moving the goalpost before she can allow herself to rest. Can you relate to this?

3.   Mavis gets annoyed and defensive when Jack gives her advice about taking care of her mental health. Why do you think this is? Is she
being fair? Is he being overbearing?

4.   What are Mavis’s motives for trying to solve Coach Cole’s murder? Do you think she wants to clear Corey’s name, is trying to find a
distraction like Jack suggests, or something else? Do you think she’s justified in stepping in again? She claims it’s helping her feel better—do you think this is true?
