Mafalda es, junto a sus amigos Felipe, Susanita, Manolito, Miguelito y Libertad, un símbolo de nuestra sociedad. Una niña inconformista, solidaria y sensible que nació en 1964, como decía Quino, como “una niña que intenta resolver el dilema de quiénes son los buenos y quiénes los malos en este mundo”. Desde el principio dio muestras de un gran espíritu crítico, y ya en sus primeras viñetas le construía un diván a su muñeca para psicoanalizarla. Hoy Mafalda sigue invitándonos a pensar, a huir del prejuicio, a amar y a soñar con un mundo mejor, y seguimos acudiendo a ella para conseguir entendernos a nosotros mismos y al loco mundo en que vivimos.

“Mafalda es una heroína de nuestro tiempo”, dijo Umberto Eco, su primer editor en Europa, y los grandes temas a los que se enfrenta son los de todo ser humano: el amor, la solidaridad, el odio, los celos, la amistad, la soledad, la incomprensión, la empatía, el miedo… Quino creó una obra universal en la que lo encontramos todo, y por eso decimos que “Todo está en Mafalda”.

Los volúmenes de tiras de Mafalda, numerados de 0 a 10, son los volúmenes originales que empezaron a publicarse como libros individuales a partir de 1966 y siguen hoy más vivos que nunca.

Next to her friends Felipe, Susanita, Manolito, Miguelito, and Libertad, Mafalda is a symbol of our society. A non-conformist, supportive, sensitive little girl born in 1964, and as Quino used to say, “a child that tries to solve the dilemma of who are the good guys and who are the bad guys in this world.” From the beginning, she showed an amazing critical nature, and in her very first strips she was already building a couch to psychoanalyze her doll. Nowadays, Mafalda is still inviting us to think, to run from prejudice, to love, and to dream of a better world, and we keep coming back to her to understand ourselves and this crazy world we live in.
 
Umberto Eco, her first editor in Europe, said “Mafalda is a hero of our time,” and the major topics she addresses are those of every other human being: love, solidarity, hatred, jealousy, friendship, loneliness, misconception, empathy, fear… Quino created a universal work where we can find anything, and that is why we say “Mafalda has everything.”
