Dear friend,
I didn’t really know what to expect: start-up a new imprint at a time of fear and loathing (not to mention more than a few doubts) in publishing?
But five years and well over a hundred books later, Blue Rider Press is thriving, a hospitable basecamp for the eclectic, the electric and even the ecstatic in new fiction and non-fiction. We’ve tried to avoid simple definitions or simplistic maxims. Instead, Blue Rider has focused on providing inspiring, singular entertainments and enlightenments for curious, dedicated readers.
The politics you can’t find in the daily paper? This Town by Mark Leibovich or The Operators by Michael Hastings. Unconventional memoirs by enigmatic musical icons? Waging Heavy Peace by Neil Young or Unfaithful Music, Disappearing Ink by Elvis Costello.  The heartbreak and triumph of human spirit? Life After Death by Damien Echols or Every Day I Fight by Stuart Scott.  Best-selling literate, accessible and powerful fiction? Mary Coin by Marisa Silver or Siracusa by Delia Ephron. Unforgettable lessons from inspiring stars? Jeff Bridges’ The Dude and the Zen Master and Undisputed Truth by Mike Tyson. There’s been sophisticated satire and humor with Ben Schott’s Schottenfreude and Bill Maher’s The New New Rules. Even the hard-to-classify National Book’s Critics Circle prize-winning Swimming Studies from Leanne Shapton or Chuck Klosterman’s But What if We’re Wrong? Just to name a few favorites we’re honored to have done.
I’m proud of what we’ve built so far. The Blue Rider Press staff has worked with tireless verve and devotion, serving our myriad authors, booksellers and, most important, readers. We’ve attempted to refine and renew ourselves—and our lists– and with your support, we’ve not only survived, but prevailed.
Thanks for your help, thanks for the fun.
